Peace
- Catholic Sisters for Justice and Peace- A grassroots groups of sisters from various religious communities working in the Cleveland diocese, who strive to respond to pertinent issues such as global warming, anniversary of Iraq war, death penalty, justice issues and ecological issues.
- Women Speak Out For Peace And Justice- Women Speak Out For Peace And Justice (WSO) is the Cleveland Branch of Women's International League for Peace And Freedom. WSO was formed by a group of women to combat the Viet Nam War after they had participated in the Jeanette Rankin Brigade. Soon thereafter, they joined the national group which has a history going back to World War I and the efforts to stop that conflict. In the 40 years since its founding, WSO has been involved in many social justice and peace issues.
- Cleveland Nonviolence Network- The Cleveland Nonviolence Network was founded on 9/11/2001 in order to encourage our community and world to respond nonviolently to the event of that day. Shortly after that time CNVN spawned the Peace Show group which held the first peace show in 2002 and has every year since. CNVN was also involved in the significant nonviolent action at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the "day after" the start of the current engagement in Iraq.
- Veterans for Peace- We, having dutifully served our nation, do hereby affirm our greater responsibility to serve the cause of world peace. To this end we will work, with others, toward increasing public awareness of the costs of war; to restrain our government from intervening, overtly and covertly, in the internal affairs of other nations; to end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons; to seek justice for veterans and victims of war; and to abolish war as an instrument of national policy.
- Patriots for Change- Patriots for Change is a progressive voice in the Chagrin Valley that advocates for economic and social justice through education and community action. Patriots for Change is a forward thinking group focusing on the most important issues of the day. Our current priorities are ending the war in Iraq and health care for all.
- Amnesty International Group 70
- Amnesty International at CWRU, CIA, and CIM- Founded in London in 1961, Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with over one million members worldwide. Activities range from public demonstrations to letter-writing, from human rights education to fundraising concerts, from individual appeals on a particular case to global campaigns on a particular issue. Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards.
- InterReligious Task Force on Central America- The InterReligious Task Force on Central America (IRTF) is a Cleveland-based interfaith group that promotes peace and human rights in Central America and Colombia. People of faith and conscience founded IRTF after the 1980 execution of four U.S. church women in El Salvador by U.S.-trained soldiers. (The Cleveland mission team lost Jean Donovan and Sister Dorothy Kazel.) Carrying on the legacy of the martyrs, IRTF educates, advocates, and organizes for peace and human rights, economic justice, and aid to Central Americans and Colombians. IRTF works to change U.S.
- Interfaith Council for Peace in the Middle East- The Interfaith Council for Peace in the Middle East is a faith based organization based in Northeast Ohio. We utilize education, peaceful activism and dialogue as the means for raising awareness about the situation in Palestine, Israel and the Middle East. We are an organization of Christians, Muslims and Jews dedicated to working for a peaceful resolution to the various conflicts in the Middle East. We aim to put a human face on the suffering and hardships of its people and to help bring to life their aspirations for peace, justice, dignity and freedom.
- Cleveland Peace Action- Peace Action is the nation's largest grassroots peace organization, with approximately 100,000 members and more than 100 state and local chapters in 27 states. Formerly known as SANE/FREEZE, the organization was formed in 1987 by the merger of the Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy (founded in 1957) and the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign (founded in 1981). The first National Congress was held in Cleveland in 1987.
- Northeast Ohio Anti-War Coalition- The Northeast Ohio Anti-War Coalition (NOAC) is a network of groups and individuals focused on stopping pre-emptive, unjust, illegal, and/or unconstitutional wars and occupations as instruments of US foreign or economic policy. It seeks to bring together a broad number of organizations and individuals for the purpose of organizing mass, visible events of a peaceful character. By doing so, NOAC seeks to: Educate the public regarding the U.S.
- Northeast Ohio American Friends Service Committee- The Northeast Ohio American Friends Service Committee is a Quaker social action organization that educates, advocates and organizes on concerns of justice, peace, sustainability and democracy. The Akron office is home to two programs, the Wage Peace/Anti-War Program and the Economic Justice and Empowerment Program. In addition, since 9/11 the Northeast Ohio AFSC has actively promoted peace, justice, and civil liberties through community forums, rallies, marches, and vigils.
